父の育った富山県高岡市にある善興寺の前住職であり、
わたしのかけがえのない94歳のおじいちゃん、飛鳥寛栗が先日
仏教伝道協会による
第四十四回
仏教伝道文化賞の功労賞を受賞しました。
The former chief priest of Zenkoji temple in Takaoka, Toyama prefecture where my father grow up,
and the 94-year-old precious grandfather of mine, had received a Lifetime Achievement Award of
Society for the Promotion of Buddhism's 44th Cultural Awards of Promotion of Buddhism this year.
大学時代に男性合唱団に在籍していたおじいちゃん。住職をつとめながら
高校の音楽の教諭をし、仏教音楽研究に打ち込んできました。
「和讃」や「声明（しょうみょう）」が主体だった伝統的な日本の仏教音楽が
キリスト教の賛美歌に刺激されて西洋音楽を導入し、
仏教唱歌、讃仏歌などにまで展開した近現代の仏教音楽の歴史を
丹念に調べ上げてきました。
He himself had belonged to the male colas club during his collage years,
He's been teaching music at local high school and been involved in developing the library of Buddhist Music History studies.
His study ranged from the traditional Buddhist music like"Wasan" and "Shomyou", to modern style like Western Christian hymn inspired music.
先日東京で行われた授賞式には約１００人の親族や関係者が集い、
おじいちゃんの多大な貢献をお祝いがありました。
これまでも国からたびたび叙勲や表彰の機会があったにもかかわらず、
「戦争協力者という過去がある自分にはそのような名誉を受ける資格がない」と、
すべて断ってきたそうです。
しかし、今回だけは、自身が力を入れてきた仏教音楽の研究が
認められたことでもあり、喜んで受賞することにしたとのこと。
The other day there was an award dinner in Tokyo, About a hundred of his families and friends gathered and celebrated his enormous contributions.
Several times he had chance to nominate national awards in the past, however, he had rejected all by saying, "As a Second World War collaborator, I do not deserve any honor." But this time for the first time, he was willing to receive a honor for his personal passion for Buddhist music.
渡英前に会いに行ったときに見せてくれたおじいちゃんとおばあちゃん元気な笑顔。
今は仏教芸術の領域の研究を始めているんだと原稿をみせてくれました。
94歳、好奇心は止まらない。
