Mari chan and I had visited last summer.

Lavender is the birthday flower for June 24th, and it is coincidentally the same day that
my friend Chieko's having wedding celebration in Tokyo.
This month is dedicated to her.  Happy Wedding Chie chan!

Tosa Shiragiku, "Suzumi" Junmai Ginjo Hattannishiki (Kochi)
This is sake using Hiroshima's most popular sake rice Hattannishiki
polished until 50%, and brewed with Kochi yeast to make clean, light and transparent sake.
it has only 14.6% AVV, has light and soft textures and summery flavors of mint and soda.
This summer has been arriving later than the usual year yet I wish you to find your summer sake
that gives you refreshing feeling for the hotter summer seasons.

広島を代表する酒米「八反錦」を５０％まで精米し
高知酵母で醸した透明感のある初夏の酒です。

May / 皐月

London is busy getting ready for the Olympics this summer.
The photo is a view from Hackney Wick station,
you can see the Olympic Stadium being built.
In Japan there is a term called "May Sickness" to be depressed and tired after
the long "golden week" holidays, yet there is no time for it!
 I wish you would fasten your foot steps for the upcoming summer seasons.

ロンドンは今夏行われるオリンピックの準備で大忙し。
写真はHackney Wick駅から眺めた建設中のオリンピックスタジウムです。
世間には五月病なんて言葉はありますが、そんな暇のない位
夏に向けて足取りを加速していきたいですね。

*Sake of the month:
It is a bit personal, but I am organizing the "Kawatsuru" Sake cruise event in
30th June and 7th July in Heidelberg, southern west part of Germany.
At the boat cruising on the Rhine River, I am introducing
6 different Sake from Kawatsuru Brewery in Kagawa prefecture.
I am very looking forward to receiving sake of President Kawahito's selection
coming all the way from Japan for this event,
especially the "Sanuki Ooseto 50, Ginjo Arabashiri Muroka Nama 23BY".
Arabashiri is the part of sake which is the "first run" of the press,
and notable for its super fresh and powerful flavors.
It just makes my heart pound by imaging how the Kawatsuru's distinctive characteristics;
Umami of ingredients, pleasant bitterness, and rich flavors will be expressed in this sake...

◆お薦めの日本酒：
個人的な話になるのですが、今年の６月３０日と７月７日に
ドイツ南西のハイデルブルグという町にて香川県の「川鶴酒造」さんの
船上日本酒の会を企画しています。ライン川を３時間に渡って走りながら、
川鶴さんのお酒６種を堪能してもらうという贅沢なイベント。
ハイデルブルグは第二次世界大戦で攻撃されなかった数少ない町で、
昔ながらのドイツの風景が残るとっても素敵な所です。
はるばる海を越えてドイツへやってくる川人社長セレクトの日本酒の中でも、
特に楽しみなのが「讃州オオセト50 吟醸あらばしり無濾過生 23BY」。
日本酒を搾る工程で最初に流れ出てくる酒「あらばしり」は、
名前の如くスーパーフレッシュで力強い味わいが特徴です。
川鶴さんの得意な、お米の旨味と爽快な苦み、味わいがどのように表現されているか、
今考えるだけでドキドキしてしまいます。

April / 卯月

Already April, I think someone is fast forwarding the clock.

I cannot stop smiling finding all flower blooming on every corner of the city.

In old Japanese, this month was called "Uzuki",

There are many stories over the origin of its name,

yet I like the idea of Uzuki being the "Rabbit month"

since it is the forth animal of the twelve zodiacal signs.

In Japan, April is the time all schools and company starts new year.

I wish you all to take great re-start in this season

when your talents and energy blooms after the long cold winter.

誰かが時計を早回ししているの？もう四月。

太陽の日差しが優しくなってきて、

街中のつぼみの開花に思わず笑顔になる季節。

「卯月」の言われには色々説があるようですが、

個人的には十二支の四番目が「卯」だからという説が、

春の草原をはねる兎が目に浮かんで好きです。

四月は、日本では入学式や入社式の月。

「春眠暁を覚えず」なんて世間では言いますが、

冬のあいだ眠っていた新しい才能やエネルギーが眠りから覚める時期に、

心も体も、新鮮なスタートを切ってくださいね。

*Sake of the month:

Since April is a season for Hanami (cherry blossom viewing) in Japan,

I would like to recommend to enjoy these events with

warm "Dewazakura, Ginjo 'Ouka'" to warm you up.

Dewazakura is from Yamagata prefecture and a pioneer of Ginjo style sake.

Bouquet of cherry blossoms and spring flowers with

soft and silky textures. Aromatic yet great with food.

We sell it warm as house sake at Roka and customers love it.

Let cherry blossom blooms in your palate by tasting this sake in this season.

◆お薦めの日本酒：

暖かくなったとは言えまだ朝晩は冷え込むお花見のお供に

山形の「出羽桜　吟醸　桜花」のぬる燗はいかがでしょうか。

吟醸酒のパイオニアとして有名な出羽桜さんの代表作、

蔵オリジナルの小川酵母からくる桜を連想する華やかな香りと

なめらかでシルクのような口当たり、食事に邪魔にならない味わいで

当店でもハウスのお燗酒として大人気。

温めるとふくよかに広がる吟醸香が、

口の中で桜が咲いたような気持ちにさせてくれる

まさに桜の時期にぴったりのお酒です。

March / 弥生

三月。

「木草弥や生ひ月（きくさいやおひづき）」が詰まって

「弥生」の語源となった言われがあります。

街はまだ肌寒い日が続きますが、

道ばたの草木の膨らんだ芽や蕾を見つけては

これから生まれるであろう新しい命に、一足先に心に春が訪れたよう。

It is the shortest month and the only month with fewer than 30 days.

Please follow the track of your new year's resolution and plan you made,

Within Haiku seasonal terms in February, there is a word called

"Harukasumi", meaning "Spring haze".

There is a sake named after it in Kuribayasi Shuzoten in Akita.

"Harukasumi, Junmai Muroka Nama, Miyamanishiki 60% 23BY"

I so wish to drink this sake by watching beautiful snow-view of Akita.

December!

The year 2011 had run through so fast and less than a month to the end.

The scenery of this season is promised by the festive street corners of Christmas

and winter sky of longer nights where stars and moon are leading a main role.

Everything is here to farewell the finale of the year.

With white plume of breath, 

I am taking a long of walk of my third winter in London.

Let's stay merry and healthy in our last month in 2011.

２０１１年も駆ける様にように過ぎていって、

あと１ヶ月を切ってしまいました。

クリスマスで賑やかな街角と、日が短くなって

染みるように瞬く星と月が主役の冬の空。

すべては一年の終わりを告げるかのように用意された景色。

白い息をはいて、また今年もこの時期がきたんだなと

３年目のロンドンの冬を歩き、ひとり思うのでありました。

今年最後の月を、元気に過ごそう。

３度目の秋に感じること / thoughts in my third autumn

It's all about being cloudy,

being cold and windy in the summer time.

It's all about being humid and never felt crisp sun.

It's all about moaning and repeating that "Oh, I hate the weather in London".

Ever since I recently started running everyday,

I realized, that London is the best city to run.

With the large amount of green and water source from Thames river,

With its beautiful sky shown every once a while during its constant weather changes,

I am feeling that I love London.

and the fact is, that It's my first time feeling like this for two years of my time here.

Happiness, which lays so distinctly but quietly right next to you,

is something you easily forget to recognize.

Instead, you tend to complain and neglect it for about two years,

and finally enable to find the value of it.

天気が常に変わりやすく、曇ってばかり。

夏でも風が強く肌寒い日が多くて、湿度もあってからっとしない。

ずっと嫌いだったロンドンの気候ですが、

走るのにとっても都合のいいものだということを

最近、ランニングが日課になって初めて気づいた。

都市の中にある沢山の緑と近所を流れるテムズ川と。

くるくる変わる天気の中で時折見せる綺麗な空と。

なんて美しい街なんだろう。

２年経ってようやく気づくなんてね。

自分のごく身近にあるしっかりとした幸せっていうのは、

その位普段は見落としがちで、文句ばかり２年も言い続けて、

やっと見つけることのできるものなのかもしれない。

On a date with Sachiko, a New Sake sommelier fellow, 

and bassist at a band named NO CARS in London.

to Surrey Dock City Farm, only a few minutes away from my house.

日本酒ソムリエの後輩ちゃんで、ロンドンのNO CARSというバンドで

ベースを弾いてるさっちゃんとデート。

うちから歩いてすぐのサリー・ドック・シティーファームへ。

I can smell a hint of Summer in cold & cloudy London.

まだ寒いロンドンの中でも、ほんの少しだけ夏の匂いがしてきました。

Watching goats running after food made us hungry.

ご飯に群がるヤギたちを見てたら、私たちもお腹へった。

there's super neat and small cafe inside; cafe Frizzante.

their cherry & strawberry cheesecake was yum.

ファーム内に、フリザンテというとっても居心地良い小さなカフェがあります。

ここのチェリーと苺のチーズケーキに♥。
